Designing with Purpose and Perspective
Hi, I’m Jonathan Nicholson, a Graphic Designer with a passion for storytelling and innovation, currently based in Cambridge, UK. I’m pursuing my MA in Graphic Design at Anglia Ruskin University, building on a foundation of global experiences and a commitment to thoughtful, impactful design.
My work is rooted in blending visual storytelling, interactivity, and strategic design thinking to create projects that resonate emotionally and stand out conceptually. I specialize in creating work that connects people, whether it’s a D&AD New Blood Graphite Pencil-winning concept for John Lewis & Partners, where I reimagined the gifting experience, or reinterpreting iconic book covers like The Lost Symbol and The Kite Runner.
Having lived in Greece, Australia, Switzerland, and the UK, I bring a global perspective to my projects. This diverse background informs my design approach, allowing me to craft work that bridges cultures and communicates universally.
My goal during my design practice is to create collage designs that reflect a distinctive and personal style I have developed throughout my course. Through continuous exploration and experimentation, I have refined my approach to layering images, textures, and colors to craft compositions that are both visually engaging and conceptually meaningful. This unique method has allowed me to merge traditional and contemporary techniques, drawing inspiration from my surroundings and blending them into cohesive narratives. By pushing the boundaries of conventional collage design, I aim to create work that resonates with viewers, evoking both emotion and curiosity.
Collaboration and idea exchange are at the heart of my practice. Whether it’s crafting a campaign, designing innovative solutions, or creating meaningful brand connections, I aim to deliver work that challenges conventions and inspires action.
